Union Européenne de Football en Salle Joins AMF
ASUNCIÓN,
Paraguay (8-31-03) - The Asociación Mundial de
Futsal (AMF) announced that the Union Européenne de Football en Salle (UEFS)
has become AMF's continental entity in Europe.
The UEFS, which finalized the agreement with AMF General Secretary Pedro Bonnettini, was formerly the principal entity in Europe for the Federacao Internationale de Futebol de Salao (FIFUSA). UEFS has since been restructured and has elected Valery Akhoumyan of Russia as its new president.
AMF is the new name for the reorganized FIFUSA, the original governing body for Futsal in the world.
The AMF has announced preparations for its 8th Futsal World Cup,
dating back to earlier FIFUSA competitions. It will be held Nov. 21-30 in Paraguay.
A total of 16 countries will participate, including defending-champion Colombia, which won
the 2000 Cup in Bolivia, and host Paraguay.
The AMF held its first congress in Asunción from Nov. 30 through Dec. 1, 2002, chaired by Rolando Alarcón. Principal organizers were representatives of South America's PANAFUTSAL.
