Talk of international Futsal tournaments and intercontinental league play involving the U.S. has been picking up in recent days. The sources are very good, and there could be some concrete announcements before the end of the year.

One leading Futsal director in South America is reportedly discussing a plan for an international Futsal league that would include club teams from 10 South American Countries, the U.S. and Mexico.

According to initial information, the teams would play in groups of four, with each group hosted by an individual country. The teams would play once a month.

The plan is "in the works" one observer said. Support is surfacing, including a potential television commitment. Planners are looking for a major sponsor.

"The idea is to start a Libertadores Cup, but not for national teams," the observer said.

There also has been talk of staging a proposed quadrangular Intercontinental tournament in the U.S. involving world-class Futsal clubs. The tournament would be held in an NBA arena in a major city in the U.S.

A similar Intercontinental Cup will take place June 28-30 in Carlos Barbosa, Brazil, and include ACBF from Carlos Barbosa, Inter Movistar from Spain, Montesilvano from Italy and Boca Juniors from Argentina.
